The early 1970s Univox Super-Fuzz guitar pedal, one of the classic fuzz pedals that has made a lasting impact on the music world. Produced in Japan starting in the late ’60s, this pedal features a circuit that was later adopted by several other companies. The original Super-Fuzz utilizes two germanium diodes, celebrated for its distinctive square-like octave fuzz sound.

The Univox Super-Fuzz is particularly renowned for its role in shaping Pete Townshend’s iconic stage sound. He used versions of the Super-Fuzz between 1968 and 1978, and you can hear its signature “buzz saw” effect prominently in recordings from that era, especially during leads and rave-up outros.

With simple yet effective controls for fuzz, tone, and volume, the Super-Fuzz allows you to sculpt your sound with ease, achieving everything from smooth overdrive to wild, aggressive fuzz tones. Its ability to cut through the mix makes it a favorite among guitarists across various genres.
