The Vox V236 Panther Bass is a distinctive and affordable bass guitar from the mid-1960s, featured in the 1965 "King of the Beat" and 1966 "Vox, It's What's Happening" catalogs. It was the most budget-friendly bass offered by Vox during 1966 and 1967.

Notably, the Panther Bass is equipped with a unique canted single pickup with four pole pieces. This pickup is angled to enhance the bass response on the E and A strings while providing a brighter tone on the D and G strings. The guitar includes a straightforward control setup with a single volume and tone knob, allowing for versatile sound adjustments.

The bass features a solid body paired with a hard maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard, offering durability and a comfortable playing experience. The 1966 US Vox catalog praised it as "a great value" with its extended range bass pickup enhancing its tonal versatility.

Produced by EKO in Italy, the Panther Bass represents a blend of Vox’s design with EKO’s craftsmanship. Reprints of the original catalogs showcasing the Panther Bass can be found at North Coast Music for enthusiasts and collectors.

Overall, the Vox Panther Bass V236 is a unique piece of vintage bass history, combining innovative pickup design with solid construction at an accessible price point. This one has been setup by our in-house luthier, and is ready for the stage/studio!
